Empowering Cochrane Women through Sport - Sport 4 Life Cochrane

Through this project, Sport 4 Life Cochrane set out to provide:

• Education - Continue to offer a Women & Leadership workshop series which is open to those in leadership roles or those looking to gain skills to take on leadership roles in sport and physical activity in the community.
• Networking - Support deepening the application and learning from the workshops by creating a network of women who connect for discussion and sharing.
• Celebration - Celebration of women and girls in leadership roles in sport and physical activity in Cochrane.

The energy and impact around the project has had multiple ripples into the local community. The contact list for the past and future events is over 100 women and girls and growing. With 90 unique engagements, increased connections and partnerships, introduction to the education and leadership in the community and beyond, the energy continues. We have created three additional connection opportunities for the group that has started to take shape thanks to this project to continue to meet throughout 2024.

Tangible impacts of the project include:

• The engagement of high school athletes with more interest around coaching and leadership in sport beyond high school.
• The creation of a 'Disability in Cochrane' group for ongoing connection and support for those in our community living with a disability.
• The Town of Cochrane representation at events and the increased desire to have a equity and inclusion voice for sport present at Interagency conversations municipally.
• The commitment from the local recreation facility to elevate the involvement of women and girls on staff and in programs.
