Sage Seniors Association – Zumba Gold

Sage Seniors Association - Zumba Gold

Sage Seniors Association has been a long term partner of the InMotion Network. The Zumba Gold program continues to be popular with the community at Sage. This accessible program also includes a hybrid model of in person/online zoom/telephone option for each class which is offered year round two times a week.

Zumba Gold has become a valued point of social connection as well as physical fitness for participants. Several participants have gone on to join other Sage programs, including the Seniors Line Dancing class - another low-impact physical and social activity targeted to older women in the Life Enrichment Program.

Sage prioritizes creating welcoming and inclusive environments and the structure of Zumba Gold was designed to be as accessible as possible:

  • Sessions are open to everyone and free of cost.
  • The instructor teaches Zumba Gold, a senior-friendly, low-impact version of Zumba that can be easily adapted for all physical abilities and fitness levels.
  • The instructor provides visual demonstrations to ensure that participants who do not speak English can understand and participate without a language barrier.
  • A phone-in option is available for those who do not have technology to participate online (though Zumba is visual – some call in to hear the music and connect to the class).
  • Offering access to the programming online to group homes (currently Winnifred Steward Association and Kiwanis Lodge access our virtual Life Enrichment programming giving access to their residents).
  • A volunteer (a retired IT professional) is available to assist those who need technical support to connect to Zoom

The class provides opportunity for physical fitness and socialization; ensures accessible programming for low-resourced seniors, including: seniors with lower incomes, Sage members and non-members, and seniors who are learning English as an additional language; and fosters connections, understanding, and community building among diverse seniors.
