Promoting Safety in Sport - Sport Central

Sport Central’s Girls In Motion project in Edmonton supported girls’ participation in sport by providing essential protective equipment at no cost through their year-round outfitting program. Girls received properly fitted jills as part of a full equipment outfit for hockey or ringette during supervised, one-on-one appointments with trained Sport Central staff at our facility. 

By removing the cost of both safety gear and sports equipment, this project addressed a key barrier to participation for girls aged 4-17 from families facing financial hardship, particularly Indigenous and newcomer families. Delivering this support through Sport Central’s ongoing, community-based services ensured access was flexible, low-barrier, and directly connected to girls’ ability to participate safely and confidently in sport.
