A major piece of this project has been the development of a survey titled, Understanding Barriers and Facilitators for Women Coaches and Officials.
The results of this survey provide insights into the individual and structural challenges women coaches and officials face, while also providing detailed examples of why most respondents desire significant changes.

In September 2024, the In Motion Network began a three year-project intended to increase the number of diverse women in coaching and officiating positions at all levels of Alberta’s sporting system.
A first step in the project was the development of a survey titled, Understanding Barriers and Facilitators for Women Coaches and Officials.

The story of the experiences shared by the survey respondents created 13 themes.
The themes have been woven together to provide a collective narrative representing the motivations, challenges and desires shared by the respondents.

Survey respondents offered a number to actionable recommendations that could be adopted by sport organizations, both individually and collectively
