Tools for creating a new future for women in sport

The history of women in sport is not only a record of exclusion; it is also a lineage of resistance and adaptation we can build on. Our task is larger than increasing the number of women in coaching and officiating—it is to transform structures and cultures that were never built for us by designing systems that reflect the diversity of women in Alberta and challenge the logics of who belongs and on whose terms.

Triangle Tool for Analysis

One tool that is helpful when thinking about transforming structures and cultures is the Triangle Tool for Analysis. Developed by anti-oppression educators Tina Lopes and Barb Thomas, the model helps us to critically examine how power works. More specifically, it helps to reveal how people's words and actions reflect and are influenced by both informal social norms and formal policies and practices that uphold particular systems of power.
