XC Bragg Creek Ski and Bike Society
XC Bragg Creek used their Take the Lead support to enhance coaching capacity at XCBC with a strong emphasis on supporting women in sport leadership roles. Through targeted support and training, multiple female coaches obtained certifications, programs offered were strengthened and the organization took important steps to address systemic barriers that limit women’s advancements in sport.
Through this project:
- 6 volunteer women coaches received their Standard First Aid Training, enhancing safety preparedness and enabling them to take on greater responsibilities within programs.
- 5 volunteer coaches earned their NCCP Community Coaching Certification, increasing the pool of qualified, female-led instruction and helping us meet national coaching standards.
- A new Lead Mountain Bike Coach completed GSMBC Level 1 Certification, strengthening leadership in a growing sport area and increasing female representation in a traditionally male-dominated discipline.
- One female Lead Coach (Dryland Training) transitioned from a volunteer to a paid position, recognizing her leadership and reducing financial barriers that often prevent women from continuing in sport leadership roles.
Impact on Future Opportunities
The new certifications significantly enhance XCBC’s ability to deliver safe, structured, and scalable programs. Certified coaches are now better positioned to:
- Take on lead roles in existing and new programs
- Mentor younger or less experienced coaches
- Pursue higher-level training and long-term coaching careers
- Contribute to XCBC’s growing reputation for high-quality, inclusive youth programming
This foundational development supports XCBC's long-term sustainability and leadership succession planning.
