Women Field Leader Certification
With the valuable support of Take the Lead funding, Boys & Girls Club of Red Deer and District was able to support 7 women from Camp Alexo trained as Field Leaders with the Outdoor Council of Canada. The confidence and team building alone made a world of difference in these woman and we saw the growth continue throughout the summer because of the training we were able to access in June.
"This project had a meaningful impact on the women on our staff team by providing them with the knowledge, resources, skills, and confidence needed to safely lead Adventure-Based Programming for youth ages 7–17 at Camp Alexo this summer."

- A key outcome of the project was supporting women staff members to obtain their OCC Field Leader Certification. This training strengthened their technical skills and provided them with the confidence and qualifications needed to independently lead youth groups on hikes, through adventures and on overnight backpacking excursions. The certification not only increased the capacity to deliver safe, high-quality outdoor programming, but also provided each woman with a valuable professional skill and credential that they can carry forward in their careers.
- The project also created an opportunity to challenge gender-based assumptions that can sometimes cause women to be overlooked or underestimated in outdoor leadership and technical roles. By intentionally investing in the development of women, they helped create greater opportunities for them to demonstrate their strengths, develop their leadership abilities, and take on responsibilities with confidence.
- Most importantly, this project empowered the women to recognize and build upon their own skills and abilities. They were able to learn, take on new challenges, and grow as leaders in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. The increased confidence and experience gained through this project will continue to benefit both the women who participated and the youth they serve.
