Edmonton Rhythmic Gymnastics - Athletes to Coaches Project
The Edmonton Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics Association (ERSGA) used their Take the Lead support to provide the opportunity for four former gymnasts to become certified rhythmic gymnastics coaches. The initiative aimed to remove the financial barriers for these young women and support their transition from athletes into coaching roles.
As a result of this project:
- Two coaches are Gymnastics Foundations Certified
- Two Coaches completes their Gymnastics Foundations Training
- Three coaches successfully passed the Provincial Level 3 Judging Exam
Coach Reflections
- “This experience has strongly influenced my personal and professional development. I gained a deeper understanding of my strengths and areas for growth. I’ve learned how to lead with empathy, listen effectively, and set clear, achievable goals—skills that have helped me improve my impact with participants and contribute more meaningfully to my organization and community.”
- “The coaching training funded by the InMotion Network grant has significantly supported my development. It improved my knowledge, confidence, and ability to create a positive and inclusive environment for athletes. I’ve seen real benefits in my sessions and feel better equipped as a coach. I’m grateful for this opportunity and the support it provided.”
- “Thank you for the opportunity to take part in the coaching course. The training helped me improve my coaching skills and feel more confident working with athletes. I learned new techniques and ideas that I now use in my classes. It was a great experience and has really helped me grow as a coach.”
- This project not only removed financial barriers to coach certification—it opened a pathway for these young women to take on leadership roles in sport. Now certified and actively coaching, they are empowering the next generation of girls to thrive in rhythmic gymnastics and beyond.
