Coach Development for Rhythmic Gymnastics
Through their Take the Lead project, the Kyrgyz Association in Canada in partnership with Suluu Rhythmic Gymnastics Club launched a rhythmic gymnastics program as a fun, accessible activity that builds confidence, creativity, and healthy development for girls from equity-deserving groups. To ensure safe and effective program delivery, we focused on training and certifying young women coaches — some of them former rhythmic gymnasts — through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
As a result, the organization successfully trained:
- Four coaches in the Gymnastics Foundations Course
- One coach in the Competition 1 Course, allowing us to strengthen our capacity for both recreational and competitive programming.
This investment in coach education has created a ripple effect: not only are these young women more confident and prepared to lead, but the 120 girls in our programs across Edmonton, Leduc, and Beaumont now benefit from quality instruction in a safe and inspiring environment. By addressing financial and structural barriers, this project not only built capacity within Suluu RG Club but also contributed to a broader movement toward equity in physical activity and recreation. With more female coaches equipped with the skills and certification to lead, we are creating inclusive spaces where girls and young women can thrive — both as athletes and as future leaders.
