Calgary Canoe Club - Coach Mentoring

This Take the Lead initiative supported Calgary Canoe Club and coach Ornmadee Baxter-Lovo to increase their coaching experience through a coaching mentorship opportunity. In the fall of 2022, Ornmadee attended a 2-week paddling clinic with world champion coach, Imre Kemecsey. InMotion Network was excited to support Ornmadee and Calgary Canoe Club in this unique coaching opportunity and in their efforts to address the barriers for women of colour within their sport and organization.

From Calgary Canoe Club: In regards to promoting women in leadership positions, we feel this initiative set Ornmadee up to be able to apply for National calibre coaching positions and not only distinguish herself as a proven, excellence focused leader, but contribute to the development and promotion of women and women of colour in the top coaching positions within the National sport organization. She is passionate about developing her skills but also in mentoring other young female coaches and is evident by the influx of introductory coaches who are women. She has made us more aware of our own club practices which may affect athletes and staff of colour and the importance of developing systems that ensure equity and development.
