Athlete Health, Safety, and Injury Prevention: A Focus on Girls Symposium

September 22, 2025

On Monday, September 22, 2025, a very special community focused research symposium will be taking place on the campus of the University of Calgary at the Rosza Centre. What's most special about it is that it will be focused on promoting the safety, health and injury prevention of young athletes, specifically girls.
As the fall begins and many sport and recreation programs start up again after the summer, our young athletes get back into sport and recreation programs again. Whether elite athletes or recreational participants, we want to ensure that they can continue playing and enjoying themselves without injury and in a safe environment.
The Athlete Health, Safety, and Injury Prevention: A focus on girls Symposium will provide a unique opportunity to learn more from some of the world's leading sport science researchers about this important topic. Focused on the public audience, the event will include:
  • Two unique groups of talks: one focused on preventing injuries and concussions specifically in girls' rugby, but applicable to other sports as well. And the second focused on providing a safe, inclusive, and protective space for our young female athletes.
  • A keynote lecture from Dr. Kay Crossley, Professor and Director of the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia safeguarding and protecting young female athletes from sport injuries.
  • Booths and information stations from community and sport partners.
  • Opportunities to ask questions, mingle and share refreshments with others!
This event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome to attend. Please clink on the link below to register your spot.
