Go Girl Sturgeon County
Sturgeon Go Girl was held in June 2022 at the Edmonton Garrison Fitness Centre for 61 girls ages 9 - 17. The day provided a variety of physical activities, sports, educational and community connections throughout the event, with one of the goals to provide a variety of new activities for the girls to try. The event was planned in partnership with Sturgeon County, Edmonton Garrison Fitness Centre, and the Military Family Resource Centre.
On the day, there were a lot of different activities offered including:
- Zumba
- Modified cross-fit
- Rugby
- Baseball
- Nutrition class
- Ultimate Frisbee
- Baseball
- Rock climbing/ bouldering
The sports chosen were intentional in order to provide a variety of team and individual options, in addition, each facilitator shared additional resources and information as to how the participants can get involved in the sport after Go Girl event. The organizing committee was grateful to a variety community sponsors supported giveaways, snacks and food at the event and hope to plan future opportunities for girls in their community.
