Participating in Arts, Sports, and Society (PASS) Research Project

Participating in Arts, Sports, and Society (PASS) Research Project

This project was led by Action for Healthy Communities (AHC), Edmonton, Alberta. AHC is a dynamic, community-based agency for people of all ages and backgrounds and provides settlement and capacity-building services to improve their lives and communities through a unique community-building process, including support, mentoring, and training.

PASS (Participating in Arts, Sports, and Society) was initiated to address the systemic barriers to the racialized new immigrant communities’ participation in sports activities which is an essential piece of social integration. This
project scope includes a research project, sector conversation, promoting equity, diversity and inclusion policy, and creating opportunities for the affected communities to participate in sports. Within the project, AHC organizes different activities, programs, and events to lower barriers that racialized newcomer youth face in sports participation. One of the main components of the PASS project is the PASS Research.
