Elleboard - Alberta Shred Tour
Through a series of events across Alberta, Alberta Snowboarding provided girls and women with several opportunities to actively engage in physical activity through on-snow programming, ride days, women-focused event participation, and community-based snowboard activities. Over 141 participants attended the 5 events, mostly youth and some young adults.
The program was offered with a variety of entry points so participants could engage in a way that matched their age, comfort level, ability, and previous experience in snowboarding. Some opportunities were active and on snow, while others focused on connection, learning, mentorship, and community-building. This allowed younger girls, teens, adult women, new participants, and more experienced riders to all participate in a meaningful way.
The Elleboard / Alberta Shred Tour project created low-cost, community-based opportunities for girls and women to participate in snowboarding in a safe, supervised, and welcoming environment. Through on-snow ride days, community connection events, and women-focused programming, we worked to reduce barriers to participation while building confidence, belonging, and visibility for girls and women in snowboarding.
A major goal of the project was to show that sport is more than what happens “on field” or in our case, on snow. Snowboarding is built around community, connection, mentorship, and shared experience. This project helped participants connect with peers, coaches, role models, athletes, and leaders in the sport, while creating space for girls and women to feel seen and supported.
Funding from multiple partners helped us keep registration low, offer free or low-cost programming, support facility and event costs, and create meaningful opportunities for participants to engage both on and off snow.
