Let’s Move & Women’s Tuesday Wellness - Kneehill Adult Learning Society

Kneehill Adult Learning and Newcomer Services in Three Hills offered two programs from summer into fall 2025 to support their community. They provided two separate community based physical activity programs for women.

  • The Let’s Move program was designed for women with developmental disabilities and provided a variety of opportunities for integrating movement with cognitive building activities. The focus of this program was fun! This helped to encourage active participation and celebration as participants pushed past their comfort zones by trying new activities.
  • Women’s Tuesday Wellness was for newcomer women where the community wanted to participate in stretching and mindfulness. This also included the explanation of fitness terms to overcome language barriers. This group had different considerations like childcare, work schedules, past trauma/war and therefore required different supports. In addition this group became a community for some participants and a way to positively engage in a local healthy activity.

Future considerations and learnings include:

  • How to support women programming with support workers who are not women or have shared clients. Future considerations include volunteers for the program duration so the women can attend for a women’s only event.
  • The unexpected teachers strike impacted this program for women with children in school causing a disruption with this program which was unfortunate. Another future consideration is the irregular hours which the women work and the need to be flexible to accommodate participants in different time and days.
