Nova Artistic Swimming Coaching & Mentorship
The Nova Artistic Swimming Club has a long history of supporting athletes transition to leadership roles, first while on a team and secondly, through coaching other swimmers. This has been a priority for the club throughout over 40 years of operation. Each year, Nova does its best to help swimmers cover the high cost of training and certification but financial demands are making this more difficult each year. Grants like Take the Lead provided by InMotion, are important to help organizations keep women and girls engaged in the sport through coaching and mentorship roles.
The focus of this project was coach mentorship and training through supporting athletes who are looking to make the transition from participant to coaching.
- 13 coaches were involved in this project and were able to complete 10 certification opportunities.
- One athlete became AquaGo trained (recreational program) and 3 athletes became Competitive Intro trained (competitive program).
- The project also included building in extra mentorship hours so that experienced coaches in the club could provide support and leadership to new developing coaches.
